Hiking in the Andes – From Manizales to Salento

Coffee Zone, Central Colombia

This three-day trek brings you to the departments of Caldas, Tolima and Quindío, corssing an area of
big environmental importance for the Colombian coffee zone. It will be an unique experience to visit the wetlands of the paramillo of Quindío. The peculiarity of the place, the contrast of colors and the presence of water mattresses allows you to understand more clearly the wealth and the importance of the Natural National Park Los Nevados.

Day 1 Manizales – Finca de Berlín
You will be picked up in the early morning from your hotel and drive to the National Park Los Nevados. The 57 km long trip allows you to enjoy the beginning of this trip and get an idea what is waiting for you the next days.
In Potosí you will have breakfast and start your adventure. The first stretch of this walk crosses the ecosystem of moorland and leads us to the lagoon of the Otún and from there descending to the canyon of river Otún. Then you will walk on the path El Bosque (3.770 m.a.s.l) where we can observe the biggest
rural establishment in the PNN Los Nevados. After a short break we will ascend to the Alto de Berlín, the perfect place to enjoy an exceptional view over the canyon of the river Otún. Afterwards we will descend to the Finca de Berlín (3.800 m.a.s.l) where we will spend the night.

Day 2 Finca de Berlín – Finca la Argentina
After breakfast the day initiates with an moderate ascent across the canyon of the ravine Berlín, which takes us to the wetland from here we turn aside to the east, taking an ancient way which slowly leads us to one of the most special places in the PNN Los Nevados, the swamps of Qundío (4. 060 m.a.s.l).
We continue with the ascent to come finally up to the summit of the Paramillo of
Quindio to a height of 4800 m.a.s.l. There we enjoy the spectacular view. We descend again for a passage in moorland area to come finally to the Finca La Argentina.

Day 3 Finca La Argentinca – Salento
The way begins with a descent which becomes more accentuated by the high – Andean forest, crossing the Bosque de Niebla (Forest of Fog, 2.500 m.a.s.l), and end up in the Valle de Cocora where we will have lunch and will be brought to Salento (1.900 m.a.s.l)
